The Benjamin Franklin Primer. Attleboro, Mass. Attleboro Chronicle 1879 Softcover Good Softcover Pamphlet, approximately 4 1/4" by 6", with illustrated printed paper wrapper, stitched as issued. Vignette on front wrapper is captioned "Statue of Benjamin Franklin." 23, [1] pp. Illustrated. OCLC # 5852917. Wrappers show soiling and water stains. Spine beginning to split. Contemporaneous notes in ink on 3 pages. This is a satire or spoof of a child's primer, clearly aimed at adults. In a later 1880 edition issued by the Boston School Supply Co., the authors declare "While it may be a caricature of this style of literature, it is at least a faithful one, and is scarcely less absurd than the books in which our children receive their first instruction."
