Eight leaves (5 3/4" x 9 1/8") including wrappers, stitched. Eight relief prints in colored ink with the illustrations signed by Edward P. Cogger. Wrappers are yellow with front wrapper illustration printed in red, green and black. Rear wrapper contains advertisements for juvenile publications in the Aunt Louisa series and Swift's Combination Toy Blocks. McLoughlin Bros. address listed as "71 & 73 Duane St. , New York" at the foot of rear wrapper. This post-Civil War children's publication published by McLoughlin Bros. has a copyyright date of 1869. The designs, however, are attributed to Justin H. Howard from an earlier issue of this title in 1867. Given the publisher's address on the rear wrapper, the publication date of this copy must have occurred after 1870. The purpose of this title is clearly didactic. The proud turkey ends up as dinner with the closing admonition: "Pride of Heart Foreruns Destruction. "Dame Dingle's Series. "Wrappers splitting at spine with closed tears on front wrapper along a few pencil notations at the head of wrappers. Blank pages between illustrations show ink rubbings of coins by previous owner, one with the date of 1875.
