Packing label from the Alberton, Maryland Cotton Mill (approximately 9 1/4" x 12") depicting an image from a lithograph by A. Hoen & Co. of the factory complex, a Baltimore & Ohio railroad train and town residents. The Elysville Manufacturing Company began producing textiles in the 1840's near what is now Daniels, Maryland. It was sold to the Alberton Manufacturing Company in 1853 and as a result the area was named Alberton well into the 1870's. This is an elaborately decorated packing slip from the mill in which the company has taken what appears to b a lithograph of the mill complex from the Baltimore based lithographer, A. Hoen & Co. A little age toning but fully intact and clean.

Organized in Bucks County of Pennsylvania following the Civil War, the objectives of this organization were "the detection of thieves and other villains, the recovery of stolen property, the insurance against the loss of Horses and Mules by death, disease or accident, and against the loss of Horses, Mules and other Property by being stolen." Worldcat shows no record of this title.

Broadside printed on light gray paper, approximately 7 5/8" x 9 5/8". Crease marks from folding but otherwise fully intact. As an immigrant from Scotland, Peter Duff established one of the first business colleges in the United States. By 1851, he had obtained a perpetual charter from the Pennsylvania legislature for "Duff's Mercantile College" to teach accounting and bookkeeping. By the elate 1850's, Duff had colleges in 5 locations. Notable alumni included Henry J. Heinz, founder of H.J. Heinz Company. This broadside, promoting enrollment in all Duff's schools, confirms that "Certificates of Scholarship paid for in any of these establishments are good in all the others."

Sheet Iron and House Furnishing Goods. Tinners' Trimmings, Machines, &c. Wear to the wrappers with top right hand corner of front wrapper creased. Gold stamped ornament remains bright.
